Dylan Presnell and the No. 26 AmericanMountainRentals.com, Amtrol Chevrolet team finished 18th at Richmond International Raceway Thursday in the Blue Ox 100.
Fighting early morning thunderstorms and an impending cold front, NASCAR K&N Pro Series East officials started off the event day with a modified one-practice schedule. Presnell, piloting his Coulter Motorsports Impala SS took to the .75-mile paved D-shaped oval for the first time in his career. Working with driver coach/spotter Scott Wimmer, Presnell used his time to perfect his racing line.
Starting the evening's race from the 25th position, Presnell slowly began his quest towards the front, relying heavily on Wimmer to navigate him through several precarious three-wide racing situations. During the second caution period on lap 29 Presnell radioed crew chief Kris Bowen that the car had become extremely tight in the sun, something that hadn't shined on the track until race time. Another caution on lap 45 allowed the Sevierville, Tenn. native to come down pit road for a much-needed right rear spring rubber adjustment.
Working through several ensuing cautions, Presnell found himself 18th headed into a red flag situation on lap 89. While discussing the ill-handling and unresponsive nature of the racecar, Bowen diagnosed the car as having a broken rear-gear locker and commended Presnell on being able to keep the car on-track. With the green flag re-displayed on lap 94, Presnell radioed the crew letting them know that even though they were fighting a mechanical failure, he would wrestle the car to the finish and not give up. As the checkered flag waved on lap 103, Presnell brought the No. 26 AmericanMountainRentals.com, Amtrol Chevrolet home in the 18th position.
Next up for Presnell and the No. 26 Coulter Motorsports team in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East competition is the Iowa 150 presented by Graham Tire at Iowa Speedway on Saturday, May 19.

PRESNELL ON RICHMOND
"Richmond
(International Raceway) is a great short track that provides close,
fast paced racing. It is unfortunate our team had the rear-gear locker
fail unexpectedly, but it is one of those situations no one can control.
I believe we would have had at least a top-10 car. I want to thank
AmericanMountainRentals.com, Amtrol and Coulter Motorsports for all of
their support and I am looking forward to heading to Iowa Speedway."
